Senior Transformer Applications Engineer (Dry Type Transformers)
Location: United States (flexible travel)
Industry: Power and Distribution Transformers
The Opportunity
A well-established organization supporting the power and distribution transformer industry is seeking a Senior Transformer Applications Engineer with experience in dry-type transformer design and electrical design. This role supports applications development, customer engagement, and technical leadership across dry-type and specialty transformer platforms, working closely with transformer OEMs, utilities, test laboratories, and internal engineering teams.
This opportunity is well-suited for someone who has designed dry-type transformers, understands electrical theory and how to apply it in real manufacturing environments, and can communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences. The role blends hands-on technical credibility with customer interaction, application guidance, and industry collaboration.
What You Will Do in This Transformer Applications Role
Serve as a technical authority and advisor to OEM’s, utilities, and testing laboratories with guidance and troubleshooting on material selections for the design of transformers.
Translate real-world transformer design, manufacturing, and testing challenges into practical technical solutions.
Identify emerging trends in dry-type transformer design and technology and help shape future product direction.
Support long-term development programs including testing, data analysis, and application validation.
Present technical concepts clearly to engineers, customers, internal teams, and industry groups.
Collaborate with sales, marketing, and R&D to align technical capabilities with customer and market needs.
Participate in industry standards activities, technical publications, or presentations as appropriate.
What We Are Looking For in a Transformer Applications Engineer
Practical experience designing or supporting dry-type transformers. VPI experience is highly relevant.
Strong understanding of transformer electrical systems, materials, testing methods, and manufacturing processes.
Ability to engage confidently with groups of people and explain technical concepts clearly and effectively.
Experience working across engineering, manufacturing, testing, sales, or product development teams.
Comfortably analyzing technical data and translating it into clear recommendations.
A collaborative, curious mindset with the ability to balance technical detail and broader business objectives.
Background That Fits Well
Electrical engineering or related technical background. A degree is helpful, but hands-on experience is highly valued.
Experience within a transformer OEM, test laboratory, or related power equipment environment.
Exposure to industry standards, specifications, or customer qualification processes is a plus, not a requirement.
Willingness to travel domestically and occasionally internationally to support customers and industry activity.
Why This Role Is Attractive
High-visibility position working across the transformer industry value chain.
Opportunity to influence product direction and industry adoption, not just execute designs.
Balanced role combining engineering expertise, customer interaction, and strategic input.
Long-term career path for professionals who enjoy being the technical bridge between design, application, and people.
