Director of Engineering-Transformers
Lead Engineering for a Growing Electrical Equipment Manufacturer
Foster Conner Recruiting is conducting a confidential search for a Director of Engineering to lead design, development, and engineering operations for a manufacturer of electrical distribution equipment and power systems.
This role is ideal for a senior engineering leader with deep experience in transformers, power equipment, or substation-related products who is ready to take ownership of both strategy and execution.
This is not a maintenance role. This is a build-and-scale opportunity.
What You Will Be Responsible For
Engineering Leadership – Transformers & Power Equipment
- Lead design and development of single-phase and three-phase transformers
- Ensure engineering supports production, quality, and customer requirements
- Maintain compliance with ANSI, IEEE, ASTM, CSA, and DOE standards
Engineering Operations & Manufacturing Support
- Oversee engineering support for manufacturing, production, and sales teams
- Improve engineering throughput, accuracy, and responsiveness
- Align engineering with forecasting, demand planning, and operational capacity
Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering team
- Develop internal capability aligned with growth in transformer manufacturing and power systems demand
- Drive accountability and performance across the team
Strategic Engineering Leadership
- Partner with executive leadership to align engineering with business objectives
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, product improvement, and design standardization
- Support long-term growth initiatives in electrical infrastructure and grid modernization
Process Improvement & Lean Engineering
- Implement and improve engineering processes and workflows
- Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies
- Establish and track KPIs and engineering performance metrics

What You Bring
Experience in Electrical Manufacturing
- 20+ years in engineering, preferably in transformers, switchgear, or power distribution equipment
- 5+ years leading engineering teams in a manufacturing environment
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of transformer design and power systems engineering
- Experience with CAD, FEA, simulation tools, and ERP systems
- Familiarity with substation equipment, grid infrastructure, or electrical OEM products
Leadership Capability
- Proven ability to lead teams through growth, change, or transformation
- Strong cross-functional leadership with operations, sales, and executive teams
- Ability to balance strategy with hands-on execution
