Electrical Transformer Design Engineer [JOB POSTING]

Duties:
Privately held transformer manufacturer is seeking a Transformer Electrical Design Engineer for electrical design of dry type transformers according to customer specifications. In addition, perform various engineering tasks involving such functions as analysis, design, while working from instructions, drawings, proposals, specifications, and other pertinent information.

Typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

– Prepare reports and related documents in accordance with requirements, established formats and general instructions. Review and analyze a variety of engineering data, documents and reports.

– Prepare design models for the new project using available design tools and programming working with sales, project management, and customer.

– Perform Finite-Element Magnetics and Electrical analysis.

– Plan, conduct or coordinate relatively straight-forward engineering analyses and tests, and prepare related reports and summaries, for review.

– Participate in the investigation of technical problems and the establishment of procedures and corrective actions to avoid recurrences.

– Inspect and collect necessary design data for any engineering assessment project.

– Perform internal and external assessment for each project at customer site, as required.
– Additional duties may be assigned as required.
Basic Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 5 of design experience; OR
Master’s degree in engineering and 2 years of design experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Transformer design experience
Thorough knowledge of FEA (finite element analysis) on electrical and magnetic field stresses
of components of the transformer
Experience with failure investigation and root cause analysis (RCA) of transformers
Experience with working with the development the development team to introduce new product
Strong verbal and written communication skills

SUMMARY

We manufacture a complete line of custom enclosures, UL tanks, control panels, switchgear.  These are just a few of the products that are engineered to order.  We service the utilities and oil and gas industry.  Due to growth we are now hiring a Mechanical Engineering Manager will lead the Mechanical Engineering team and will partner closely with operations and sales to deliver world-class project management and engineering processes that will enable the company to realize its growth goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  •  Lead and develop the Mechanical Engineering Department.
  • Department needs to provide production with complete BOM’s and routes while ensuring manufacturability.
  • Establish department strategic objectives / key performance indicators (KPI) aligned with departmental and corporate strategic objectives.
  • Establish methods to measure performance against department strategic objectives / KPI’s and report results.
  • Implement corrective and preventative actions as required based on performance against strategic objectives / KPI’s.

Education and/or Experience

  • Required B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of work experience, including 2 – 5 years managing an Engineering Department.
  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineering License a plus.
  • Demostrated  Management skills and abilities but not limited to team building, leadership, coaching/training, goal setting, conflict management, performance management.
  • Basic knowledge of power distribution equipment.

The ideal candidate should be upbeat, highly energetic with a strong customer service approach to business. Must be results driven and have strong oral and written communication skills. Candidate should be able to work independently and flexible with changes occurring on a daily basis.  Candidate needs to be able to adapt to a growing and changing atmosphere.
