This position will design and help mentor less experienced designers. To plan and direct the accomplishments of product engineering objectives, specifically to support the company.  This position will provide technical guidance in design and guaranteeing sound engineering procedures, quality products and service to our clients and determine best practices for all North American facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design medium voltage oil filled power transformers
  • Confers with customers regarding designs
  • Develops new products from the beginning concept to testing and full production
  • Assists production engineering staff to accomplish goals efficiently
  • Works closely to establish long-range operating goals and expansion of products
  • Leads research and development of new projects and products
  • Works closely with industry groups and committees to understand new and changing regulations that apply to the design of products in our industry
  • Collaborates with production and purchasing on materials and processes to optimize cost in design


  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience required
  • Ten years or more of experience designing power transformers
  • Previous experience working for a manufacturer of transformers

Mechanical Engineer Power Transformer Designer [JOB POSTING]

Leading manufacturer of custom medium voltage oil filled transformers and other power generation equipment.   Servicing a broad range of utilities and industrial markets throughout the world. We are actively seeking a Mechanical Engineer Power Transformer Designer to join our staff.


Ø      Develop and design prints and mechanical documentation for manufacturing and assembly of customized transformers in reference to electrical design and customer specification.

Ø      Consult the assembly plan in compliance to customer specifications and electro-mechanical documentation.

Ø      If needed, work directly with customers to understand equipment/system requirements and to ensure an optimized solution for the clients’ application(s).

Ø      Address shop floor and field quality issues and take necessary design measures through ECN to enhance product quality and/or reduce manufacturing and material cost.


1.      Mechanically design of power transformers electro-magnetic products to meet customer specifications at requested delivery dates.

2.      Using electrical design sheets, develop the mechanical design of coil/core assembly, clamping hardware, enclosure and/or additional assembly outline for the entire system.

3.      Specify and document special assembly instructions and/or hardware.

4.      Develop mechanical documents for enclosures and other mechanical parts to be outsourced and work with the third party toward the fulfillment of required specifications.

5.      Work with Engineering, customers and Manufacturing teams towards achieving quality goals and design validation.

6.      Design and develop manufacturable products that are cost competitive and in adherence to the material standards.

7.      Define and document bills of materials and process routing steps.

8.      Work with quality and manufacturing teams to resolve field or shop floor issues and questions.


Ø      Proficiency in use of ProE, AutoCAD, MRP tools, Microsoft Word and Excel.

Ø      Experienced in developing routing documents and Bill of Material in a manufacturing environment.

Ø      Resource planning to accomplish the completion of documentation for a given project at a scheduled time-frame.

Ø      Ability to efficiently work within mechanical team and interface well with other departments and remain well organized and disciplined.

Ø      Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with attention to details.

Ø      Ability to make independent decisions with initiative and tact.

Ø      Ability to train, coach and assist junior team members.
